This Fishtail Paipo shape was always our best selling board in its plywood form, but now made from 18mm thick Paulownia wood which gives a high level of buoyancy with low weight. (1.7Kg). The old 9mm ply version weighed 2Kg.
Being highly manoeuverable the Fishtail Paipo really excels in larger surf and the wide stance gives lots of planing ability for an easy take off. With the addition of the underside channels, this Paulownia version is fast and stable, even when travelling across the face of the biggest green wave.
Dimensions: 115cm long (3'9"), 39.5cm widest point, tapering to 31cm.
Finished with Danish Oil and a finishing wax.
Why channel bottomed?:
Channels on the underside of a board are designed to direct water and air flow quickly and with forced direction, allowing for a more controlled and efficient surfing experience. They help to reduce drag and increase speed by directing water flow out the tail of the board, which is particularly beneficial in larger, faster waves. Channels also provide more grip on steep waves and enhances turning characteristics.
